Nick Holesa played five seasons on the Virginia Tech baseball team while earning his bachelor’s degree. Remaining at his alma mater after graduation,
he spent two seasons as the baseball operations assistant at Virginia Tech, having joined the Hokies’ support staff during the fall of 2023.
From 2019 to 2023, Holesa played in 92 career games with Virginia Tech, making 48 starts at first base. He registered 48 career hits spanning 199 at-bats, belting 12 doubles, a triple and three home runs while recording 22 RBIs, 17 walks, three stolen bases and a .984 fielding percentage.
As a redshirt-junior during the 2022 season, Holesa played in 37 games and hit nine doubles, helping Virginia Tech on its journey to clinching its first ACC Coastal Division title. He was one of 12 Hokies who scored a run during the team’s notable 24-4 thrashing of Columbia during the 2022 NCAA Blacksburg Regional, which Tech would ultimately champion.
Holesa’s student-athlete career involved vigorous off-field recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome – a rare neurological disorder that affected his muscle strength and mobility. After returning to the diamond for two collegiate seasons, he was named the 2023 recipient of the program's Johnny Oates Memorial Award, presented annually to the Virginia Tech baseball player who best exemplifies courage and perseverance, among other revered qualities.
A celebratory pioneer, Holesa was among the first Virginia Tech baseball student-athletes to toss the Hokies’ iconic sledgehammer to home run hitters upon their triumphant return to the dugout area.
